The Darkest day

Everyone have heard about the May 13 incident. This is a dark spot in the Malaysia’s history as it has aroused the racial issues that have made our country suffers in a lot of ways; socially, economically and politically. Fortunately, the Malaysians have learnt the importance to have unity and harmony in order to create a safe and developed nation. However, the May 13 incident has became an unforgettable pain and will always be a lesson to the Malaysians.
This is a story of an old man whom has experienced the May 13 incident when he was younger.
“I remembered when the May 13 incident exploded, I was only short of one week to my 19th birthday, and I will never forget how I was brought home safely by some Chinese men. I needed to pass through crooked path and jungles to get to a safe spot. That might be 1 hour walk, but to me, it seemed like there’s no end for the path and jungles. All I did was run and run and run..
I dint know what exactly happened. I was told to run for my life when I finished my breakfast at home. I did hear about some rumors about the conflicts between the Chinese and Malay. While being an Indian, I wasn’t too concern about it until this actually threatened my life! All I know was that the riot was sparked off by the misunderstood betweens the Malays and Chinese. Only after the incident people realized it was the politicians that started off this disaster.
I worked for the Chinese Business men in the city, and I lived in the city. When the May 13 incident exploded, the city was destroyed by the Malays. I was paranoid when I heard screams and shouts in the end of the street. There were few Malays holding weapons and hurting innocent people living in the city, mostly the poor Chinese. Even though I am Indian, I was worried that what if they hurt me too, especially because I work for the Chinese. I have developed a good relationship with my employer. He was a really good boss. He had a family of a wife and two children. I realized they were all in danger and ran to their homes. Fortunately, they were already gone. As I wanted to leave the empty house, someone knocked on the door. I answered that, as I knew they were here to haunt for the Chinese, not me. As they searched the house, I escape through the back door. Unfortunately I was spotted by one of the man. They must have thought that I have helped the Chinese to escape thus chasing after me. I ran through the jungles and was blocked by some Chinese men. Luckily I knew one of the man and told him the story. They led me through small paths and jungles to get to a safe spot. I stayed there for two nights and was then led home safely by some Chinese.
I did now know what happened outside but I prayed for every innocent ones’ safety.
Many were murdered and hurt during this incident. I was fortunate to be one of the survivors.”
I believe that we all learn from mistakes. This sad strategy have become a lesson to all: violence will not solve conflicts but only create more conflicts. We should always bare in mind that unity bring us victory and peace and harmony is the important element in the effort of building a developed country.

If YOU stop Dreaming, YOUR life will be Nothing!

A dream is anything that our heart desire. We must desire something to make us feel alive. Imagine a life without dreams and hopes, that would be just as dull as ditchwater. Well, being an interesting enough person, I have two dreams, and both dreams are interrelated.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I seldom read magazines about fashion trends because those so called fashion doesn’t really work on my small sized body. Every time I flip through these magazines I can’t help feeling helpless. This kept me thinking of solutions to overcome the biggest problem in my life: size.  Instead of feeling depressed and hopeless, this has inspired me to launch my very own fashion magazine! This is not going to be an ordinary magazine like what any other magazines portray. The magazine that I want to launch is specially made for small sized females, just like me!

While the mass media have influenced the society with the concept of having a big chest, small waist, lean hips, no blemishes, no stretch marks, and no wrinkles is what an ideal female should have, my magazine would promote natural beauty and health! Sadly, the atmosphere of current times is teaching females, in spite of age, that if they do not meet these conditions, they should go on a diet, have intensive exercise, get expensive cosmetic surgery, or buy expensive make-ups to achieve it.  What makes my magazine so special is that it encourages females to have true self-confidence, not through artificial methods but through themselves!

So, what do YOU think my second dream is?! My second dream is actually... to become a supermodel!!!!! Ever since I was in high school, I have dreamed of becoming a supermodel. However, when I have started to realise that my height is going to remain unchanged and stuck at 147cm forever, I knew that my ambition to become a supermodel is never going to be a dream come true. Despite that, my dream of becoming a supermodel have never vanished with the cruelness of reality, instead, the passion of being a well known model have grew even stronger in me. This has led me to another similar dream; that is to become a kids model instead of a supermodel! Well, it is still wearing fabulous outfits and posing for photography, the only tiny tinny difference was just the size of the outfits.   This enables me to fulfil my modelling dream through the magazine that I am desired to launch.  Fashion trends for short and small females would be modelled by me myself!  Yeah!! Becoming a model will no longer be an impossible mission. Instead, It is going to be I-M-Possible!
All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them. So never give up! Keep holding on 

My little secret garden

To be frank, I do not fancy reading popular magazine. This is because the content of these magazines does not suit me well. For instance, fashion displayed in these magazines usually are designed for supermodels, which would mean that these clothes doesn't fit for my small body and look as beautiful as the photos of those models. I can’t really follow the fashion trends that are portrayed in the magazine because Its hard to be a size "zero". Alright, I know it is a sad case! Well, no one is perfect! :) Now, let me talk about some magazines that i love to read. I bet you wouldn't have guessed this, but I love reading craft magazines!  I don’t think that many people will have the some interest as I do, because I have built a great passion for handcrafts especially origami.  One of the craft magazines that I often enjoy reading is ‘Papercraft Inspiration’.

Basically, Papercraft Inspiration  is a magazine about the art of origami and other handcrafts. They have plenty of projects that kept me busy trying to complete them. If you are thinking of making paper crafting as a hobby, you will definitely like it and enjoy it as much as I do. The steps to produce a nice paper craft in Papercraft Inspiration are clearly shown. It also has pictures with instructions that make the making of paper craft a lot easier. It has the best paper crafters as their author. I use this magazine as a source of inspiration and it comes with fabulous free gifts all the times.

Will Newspaper survive?

Nowadays, many young people would not read newspaper anymore. Newspaper is not the only way to catch up the latest news. There are many other devices that can be used to get more information about things that are happening. Does that mean newspapers are dying?Absolutely not...the world is not just occupied by young people, there are still the older generation. For instance, our parents, they read newspaper every morning. Here is a little sneak peek of my family's lifestyle, in terms of newspaper. My dad reads it in the toilet, and my mum reads it with a cup of coffee beside. Ironically, the thing that they must do every morning is not having breakfast, but reading the newspaper. Reading a newspaper is a habit of those older generation.Without reading Newspaper, they will feel that they are missing something. Our elders prefer to read about current news from the paper than going online.
Besides that, the newspaper is also an advertisement medium. The reason that many advertiser choose the newspaper as an advertisement medium is because they can reach out to the society, regardless of their social status.

Advertisement in newspaper!!

In my opinion, newspapers will still survive in the future!! As reading the newspaper has become part and parcel of many people's daily life.

Oopsssss!!!

Last week, my lecturer let us play a board game, Taboo. This is the first time I  play Taboo,a  word guessing  game. The purpose of playing this game is to improve our thinking process. The rules are simple, a person has to give creative,carefully-worded clues to help your team mates to guess words quickly. But don’t mention unmentionables words, or you’ll get the buzzer and lose the point!
Honestly, when I heard that everyone should play,I was shocked.I was quite shy to stand in front and everyone because they was  is looking at me. I was also scared I will blurt out those unmentionables words. Fortunately, everything went smoothly,I didn't get buzzered!I really learnt many things through this board game.
Taboo is a wonderful game than trains your brain to think fast.Play more Taboo,it will improve you thinking process.

Delicatessen

Delicatessen, a french movie. It is a visually intricate french comedy. The story is centered on a microcosm of a post-apocalyptic society where food is so rare it's invaluable and is used as currency At a time when food is scarce and cannibalism rampant.  The story focus on an apartment building with a delicatessen on the ground floor. The owner of the eatery also owns the apartment building and he is in need of a new maintenance man since the original "mysteriously" disappeared. An ex-clown turns up seeking work at an ancient tenament in the middle of nowhere. Little does he know that the landlord, a butcher, feeds his tenants, The clown and the butcher's daughter  falll in love . The butcher's daughter tries to convince her father , but her father refuses. Desperate to save her lover, the butcher's daughter seeks help from the Troglodytes, an underground  vegetarian group that tries to rescue people from cannibals....

It is difficult to digest all the content when watching it.I have put a lot of effort trying to understand the movie. The only thing of the whole movie that I interested and catch my attention is the saw song. The very first time that i know a saw can become an instrument. It is quite interesting!

The saw and cello!!

The character that I like in the movie, Delicatesen is Aurore. She is always trying to commit suicide in neat and inventive ways.

Aurore's suicide attempt!!

I would recommend the film to those that enjoy black humor that is truly warped. Sensitive, easily offended people should avoid the film as you probably won't enjoy its humor.

Social Cognitive Theory

Social Cognitive Theory is an idea when people learn through observation and apply it into mass media, especially television programs. This theory argues that people imitate the behavior they see; and modeling happens in two ways, imitation and identification.
I personaly have experience this.Since i was young, i don't go for swimming.Swimming is the scariestthing that I had ever done.I cant understand why my neighbour love to go swimming. Aren't they afraid of the jaws???The thought that disturb me is that the Jaws will eat me when I go swimming. The movie "Jaws" makes me feel  insecurs in the swimming pool. Until now i don't  swim, even when  I go to beach I will just sit on the sand, away from the  water.

Isn't it scary??

Candy Review: Meiji Poifull

I bet many people know Jelly Belly.Jelly Belly have about 50 flavour of jelly beans. But i am not going to write a review on it.I would like to introduce another kind of jelly beans, Poifull!!!

I am a candy lover~especially gummies!!Poifull is a little tiny jelly beans that made by Meiji. Poifull Jelly Beans are unique. The outer coating is quite thin, Poifull Jelly Beans are softer than Jelly Belly,it taste more like a gummies.

Poifull Jelly Beans have four yummy fruit flavor per box, green apple, peach, lemon and grape.
The quality of jelly beans is very good. The flavors are all intense, somewhat sour

Heart shape jelly bean (lemon)
Heart shape jelly bean (grape)
Each box contain only one heart shape jelly bean.Usually, I consider it as my lucky day when I find the heart shape jelly bean.It make everything run smoothly (it might be my Psychological effect). However, i am happy with that.

Something special about Poifull Jelly Beans that you might do not know is they contain collagen which has been proven beneficial for you skin. Isn't that interesting? without any vitamins and skin care product, our skin will getting better and better just by eating jelly beans!!!

Anyway, I love Poinfull Jelly Beans!!I think these are the best jelly beans after Jelly Belly!!

Genre

When talk about genre, the first think that appear in my mind is Disney Movie!I am big fans of  Disney movie. High 5 if you are too!!!

My favourite genre is animated film! Movies that make me feel better when i'm stressed. Classic stories and characters captured on film and preserved for generations to enjoy is the essence of Disney.

Animated Films are ones in which individual drawings, paintings, or illustrations are photographed frame by frame. Animation, fairy tales, and stop-motion films often appeal to children, but it would marginalize animations to view them only as "children's entertainment." Animated films are often directed to, or appeal most to children, but easily can be enjoyed by all. See section on children's-family films.

Best Disney animated movies

The Lion King presents the story of a lion cub,Simba's journey to adulthood and acceptance of his royal destiny.

it have meaning about friend, Team work, so the kids can make a Good things by watching this movie.
This is a very hard choice. I loved the Lion King, in fact, I could watch this movie once or twice a month it was very emotional for me.

I love Aladdin. .Hope someday I wish I could have a magic carpet to let me fly all over the world... And a magic lamp with genie inside to grant my wishes.. Watching these movie bring me back to when I was little girl yet I am 18 years old and still watch them all the time.

the same story line as lion king: father and son- story .Finding nemo have some really funny parts in it. And the cast is really great. This movie is great for kids and some time even adults.

How could this NOT be the best Disney movie?!?Beauty and the Beast teaches us that true beauty is found within. It was the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture, plus it has songs, endearing characters, suspense, romance, and the best Disney Princess.

I really like Mulan and the message it gives. She is probably on e of the greatest role models for girls and women.Mulan showed that being a woman does not mean you're incapable of doing things that society used to consider "men things", such as fighting, making important decisions and speaking one minds up.

I LOVE IT! Its my favorite movie of all times and always will be because it tells the life of a mermaid and the adventures she has while under water.

Baraka!!

Baraka...the word itself was foreign to me, yet it brings a sense of  "Lion king'" being reborn.
Thanks to Google, I now know that "Baraka" means blessing in various languages including Hebrew, Arabic and other Arabic-derived lingual. The French understand it as "luck", which is quite similar to "blessing".

In the beginning of the movie, there was a scene showing monkeys bathing in a hot spring. This scene shows the monkey (Japanese macaques) portraying human behavior, which is the ability to relax and enjoy life. On a note of religion, in terms of this "religious" movie, I think the monkey and human are similar in many ways because we are of the same creator, which is our Father in heaven.

--> notice the similarity between them? that's why it reminds me of Lion King. : D
In my opinion, the movie is not for everyone, meaning it can be quite dry and boring at times. However, the background music did help in keeping me awake. The music also brings a pinch of new age religion to it. At certain scenes when the people are worshiping, the music is quite eerie.

Nevertheless, Baraka brings a clear message: Religion affects Lifestyle.
The author included many scenery of places to give us an idea on the geological setting. Besides that, I also saw   many different culture in the movie.
For example, the Japanese believe in Ying and Yang, therefore they have a Zen Garden in their backyard. They also seem to enjoy peace and serenity compared to other races in the world.

There is a a turning point in the movie, from the beginning where religion is part of everyday's daily routine, to the period where technology cannot be separated from their lives. We can say that in modern times, work has replaced their time for prayers and rituals. In the second part of Baraka, we can see that without religion men tend to stray away from God and morality.

To be frank, although I did not enjoy it much but I definitely learnt from it. Baraka has been an eye opener, as I got to see different  lifestyles of many ingeniousness tribes. I was reminded, even with technology we must always remember to take care of our environment. I also feel that religion can still be part of our life although we are in modern times.

Watching Baraka is like a lesson on Semiology, it's like learning a new language; the Science of Signs.

Saturday 25 August 2012

of Semiology and Semiotics

Semiology is a learning of "science of signs".Semiotics is concerned with how meaning is generated in "text".
A picture speak a thousand words, different people will have different meaning.

What does this picture mean to you? Rainbow? For me,Rainbow is a natural phenomema noted for its beauty and inexplicability . Christian traditions signs it as a covenant with God not to destroy the world by means of floodwater. For children there is a pot of gold under the rainbow.
Different people have differenr mind set, therefore there are many interpretation of a picture.
